RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) with the assistance of the local police carried out an anti-encroachment operation on Friday and removed illegal structures.

The operation was conducted in Ganjmandi, Raja Bazaar, Iqbal Road and Fawara Chowk areas and the enforcement cell demolished illegal sheds as well as cemented steps and stairs outside shops. Fines were also imposed on the encroachers.

The RMC official said the operation was launched on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Omer Jehangir and RMC Chief Municipal Officer Shafqat Raza.

Meanwhile, National Highway Authority (NHA) has issued notices to encroachers to remove all encroachments along G.T. Road in Rawat on Friday.

NHA has given the encroachers two-day deadline to remove encroachments voluntarily or else their buildings, shops, plazas and other encroachments will be bulldozed.

The highway authority also warned the encroachers that cases will be filed against them and fines imposed if they failed to comply with the notices.
