KHAIRPUR, June 24: Residents of different localities of the city staged a demonstration here on Friday against shortage of drinking water. The worst affected areas include Dabbar, Marecha, and Dargah Mohammad Shah area, Jhugyion, Rabuji Khad, Bhurgari, Osta Gahi, Kumber Shah, Hashmi Ghitti and Baghal Shah.
The protest was organized by the Mazdoor Federation, Jagirta Forum, Citizens Action Committee, Shehri Ittehad and other NGOs.
The protesters led by Syed Shakir Ali Shah, Amjad Lashari, Mithal Shah, and Abdul Qayoom also staged a sit-in outside the Civic Centre.
Speaking on the occasion, their leaders said that for the last four years, shortage of drinking water has made the life of people miserable and since last 15 days in severe hot weather, people are facing more hardships.
They said, on the on hand, the water supply remained disturbed in Khairpur and on the other the drainage system has become a problem for residents.
They said many city areas including, the Mall, Law College Road, Sachal Library Road, Court Road, Butero and Abid Colony Chowk, were submerged under drain water.
The protesters also raised slogans against the taluka municipal administration of Khairpur and demanded restoration of water supply.
DISPUTE RESOLVED: Dispute cropped up over karo-kari between Tagar and Jagirani tribes was resolved on Thursday at Pir-jo-Goth.
One Janib Jagirani, who was declared as karo was fined. He will pay Rs150,000 to a Tagar family.
Two Tagars had murdered one Bashiran Tagar in the Mang Tagar village alleging her as Kari.
