Pakistani squash player Farhan Mehboob on Saturday claimed that he had been offered Rs20 million by Indian officials to drop out of a match during the 2014's Asian Squash Team Championship, DawnNewsTV reported.
During a conversation with journalists following the CNS International Squash Championship, held recently in Karachi, Mehboob said he was approached by the Indian officials who pretended to be match-fixers during the 2014 tournament.
The squash player claimed that he had refused the offer and told the officials that he "would not sell [his] country even if [he's] offered a billion rupees".
Mehboob said he had immediately informed his coach, manager, and officials of the Pakistan Squash Federation about the incident.
Pakistan had clinched the 2014's Asian Squash Team Championship title by defeating Malaysia and Mehboob was the star player of the Pakistani side that year.
India had ended up at the third spot in the tournament.

There should be a full blown investigation to look at this. Indian bookies are reknowned in cricket and have destroyed the gentleman’s game. Since a game is an opportunity for making money, the bookies don’t stop at any one sport.
ICC, and other sport bodies should launch investigations against the Indian and other bookies and weed them out.

When they are already almost at numerous uno position in all forms of the game, presumably with no elaborate corruption nexus that is visible to anyone till now. Field Hockey, ditto. @Akil Akhtar, So you mean your cricketers can be bought cheap? If you win it is talent. If India wins it is due to money power. We have won against Australia today. Is it due to betting? We can at least say we have the money to purchase you, while you don't even have money to build dams.

Do Indian sports officials care so much for the Indian team? I am pleasantly surprised!!! And who would have paid for it? 20 million is probably total allocation to Squash in India...and govt officials wouldn't pay rs 20 from his pocket for even Olympic medal. In short a fake claim.

He is delusional. Except BCCI no sports association in India has that kind of money. May be they offered him Indian Rupees 20,000 and he thought it was 20 million.

Squash is not a sport that is watched by many and has no commercial value! If it was cricket or hockey, I might believe it! BUT, the timing and the sports involved are very suspect and hence not believable!
