PTI minister shares property tax bills of NY flat allegedly owned by Zardari

Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi on Saturday shared property tax statements of what the ruling PTI claims is a flat in New York owned but not declared by PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari.
Zaidi, whose party is seeking Zardari's disqualification from the parliament for concealment of assets, shared on Twitter the property tax statements of an apartment in the Manhattan borough of New York City. The documents shared bear the name "Asif A. Zardari".
Earlier this week, the PTI had filed an application with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in Karachi, seeking the disqualification of PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari for concealing his assets.
According to the application filed by PTI Sindh MPA Khurram Sherzaman with the Provincial Election Commissioner, Zardari had failed to declare the apartment he allegedly owns in the US in his nomination form for the 2018 general elections.
The PPP leader is a member of the National Assembly from NA-213, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sindh.
A document submitted with the application and obtained by Dawn shows an individual named Asif Ali Zardari as having an address at 524 East 72nd Street, New York, New York. A second document purports to show that one Ms Mehreen Shah was granted the power of attorney for the condo unit by the owner of the property.
The veracity of the documents could not be independently confirmed.
Although Provincial Election Commissioner Muhammad Yousaf Khan Khattak reluctantly accepted the application filed by Sherzaman, he informed the PTI MPA that any action on the petition would be taken by the ECP's Islamabad headquarters.

Hard to imagine, there's another name sake of AAZ. Who would want to even pretend to be him?
Fake names on property documents, especially tax bills and that to in the US is next to impossible. So Mr. Zardari has some tough questions to answer:
Where did he get the funds the buy the property, who paid the property tax bills and who uses the property??

As a Pakistani, this is my voice and hope the same of every other faithful Pakistani. Putting AAZ, NS, or their families or every corrupt person in jail is not the solution. We Pakistani nation wants all assets of these corrupt people and families should immediately be taken in government control, selling their assets in the country and abroad and bring the money back in the country and spend the money in education and welfare of Pakistani nation.
Please don't put them in jail to live their remaining life in luxury on public money, rather take every single penny from them and ask to live their life from scratch, doing hard work on the street.

Keeping in view that we are living in a technological age where anything can be forged and mutilated, one must not forget that photocopies of any document are inadmissible by any court of law.
To be realistic, it well known fact that Zardari has undergone through such allegation in the past too, of owning various properties in UK, France, Dubai etc.besides score of sugar mills &=vast landed assets in Pakistan, but still he made it to become president of Pakistan & stayed as such for full 5 years. Therefore, present onslaught remains to be an old & tried gimmicks, will only be fruitful if carefully applied.
On other hand, one must be aware of the political implications at this time when the country is already is in the eye of storm both politically & economically. We can’t afford political turmoil as our parliament has to work in unison manner to pass relevant laws to create jobs, provide shelter, education to 25 million out of school children, water to thirsty areas, & many others

Asif Zardari did "not" declare New York property to the Election Commission because it was ill-gotten wealth. He lied to the nation in his declaration. There are other properties he had bought overseas in fake company names and other people's names to avoid detection. Not to mention billions in his Swiss bank accounts, all traced to corruption. He is a criminal and must be punished. No politician can be above the law.

I wonder if it is true tax bill. I am not a New Yorker but some identification numbers for property are lacking. I suggest you should contact a real estate attorney to look at the title before filing for disqualification. I am a Chicagoan where some PIN number identifies the property. You need to use that for all transactions including paying taxes. A title search will show who is the current owner. These are essential elements otherwise your complaint should be thrown out.

I checked the web site and it looks that this bill is original. However it may be possible that Mr. Zardari sell it and provided power of attorney to the purchaser. It looks that it is a good case to be probed and if it is still owned by Mr. Zardari, he shall be given the same verdict as given to Nawaz Sharif.

That apartment/town house is just the tip of the iceberg. He owns hundred of acres of orange groves in Florida also under the power of attorney document to another PPP employee. That property was worth close to $127 million, ten years ago. This person has his tentacles in a lot of other things from Pakistan to Dubai to France to UK to US. Mr. CJ wake up and take account.

OK he shared the Tax Bill, but not saying about assessment value which is only about $ 77000 so why so much hype. The market value is $ 286000. Even less than some Flats in Karachi. Besides the flat was given through Power of Attorney to Ma’am Mehreen, she has power to get that flat into our name anytime, maybe that’s reason for not showing in election papers. In event if shown in papers and meantime she got in her name, that too will not reconcile. Hence no crime if not claimed in papers, Zardari is innocent.

This is NOT a property tax bill.
Where on the letter is written that this is a property
tax bill, or the owner is Asif Zardari?
In USA property bills have a complete different
format and they mentiom a whole lot of other
information.
Just by having any random bill “to” Asif Zardari
and a billing address doesn’t make that appartment his.

It is a 450 sq. ft. single bedroom apartment worth hardly $600K. Asif Zardari probably forgot to mention it since it was a small rounding error in his overall empire.
Really glad to see that he is paying his $10K / year taxes to New York City on timely basis. Wish he would do so in Pakistan also.
