SECURITY: Police have tightened security at the 83 churches and other places in Sialkot ahead of Christmas.

Sialkot ADC (Revenue) Sadia Mehar said police had been put on high alert. The district administration, she said, had established five markets to facilitate the Christian community. She visited the markets to make sure proper arrangements are in place.

PTI (Minorities Wing) Punjab Senior Vice President Dr Mehboob John Piyara said the Christians had decorated the churches to celebrate the festive occasion with traditional zeal and enthusiasm.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Dr Syed Bilal Haider reviewed the security arrangements.

SPORTS: Director General Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar says the national development and prosperity can be achieved by promoting sports and other healthy activities.

In an interaction with journalists and youngsters during his visit to the Jinnah Stadium and the Nawaz Sharif Hockey Stadium on Sunday, he announced early renovation of both these stadiums. He stressed the need for the promotion of sports for physical and mental growth of the children.

Mr Sarwar said it was the national obligation of every one to play a pivotal role in motivating the young generation to participate in games and other healthy activities. He said the government was fully aware of the problems of the youth and was making efforts to provide all possible facilities to them.
