CHITRAL: The police foiled a drug smuggling bid here in Garam Chashma area near Pak-Afghan border on Wednesday by seizing 42kg charas and arresting two men.

The two included Khosh Diyar and his son Zafar Ahmad.

District police officer retired captain Furqan Bilal told Dawn that the suspects were believed to be part of a gang involved in drug smuggling via Shah Saleem Pass in the wake of the strict vigilance of southern routes entering the district.

He said he was hopeful that the gang’s other members using border routes would be held soon.

Mr Bilal said the police were showing zero tolerance towards those involved in the illegal drug trade and that many narcotics peddlers had already been arrested during raids in different areas of the district.

He asked the people to fully support the police in eliminating the menace of drugs from the district.

MEDICAL CAMP: A free medical camp was organised in the Ashrait village of southernmost part of Chitral under the aegis of Chitral Task Force.

A team of doctors from the task force and civil doctors hired for the facility examined 461 people, including men, women and children, and provided them with free medicines.

Commandant of the Chitral Task Force Colonel Moeenuddin visited the camp and asked villagers about their problems.

Food packets were later distributed to the poor people on the occasion.
