SHIKARPUR: The Shikarpur campus of the Shah Abdul Latif University (Salu), Khairpur, has been upgraded to the status of university and name after renowned philosopher and poet Shaikh Ayaz.

A notification to this effect had been issued on Dec 12 and soon afterwards the campus was closed. Recently, all moveable properties of the campus, including vehicles, were returned to Salu and eventually transferred to other campuses.

As per the notification, Prof Nisar Ahmed Siddiqui, the vice chancellor of the Sukkur Institute of Business Administration (IBA)

has been appointed as the first VC of the Shaikh Ayaz University, Shikarpur, on a temporary basis.

He will look after the administrative and certain other affairs of the university. Accordingly, Prof Siddiqui assumed the charge on Dec 17. He is supposed to continue with the charge till a VC for the new university on a regular basis is appointed.

Deputy registrar Mir Mohammad Mahar has said that the students who had already qualified for admissions to Salu’s Sukkur campus before Dec 12 would be considered to have qualified for admission to the Shaikh Ayaz University.

A piece of land measuring 55 acres and costing Rs917 million has already been purchased and proposed to allocated to the university.
