Published June 28, 2005

LAHORE, June 27: The health department has taken effective measures to check meningitis in some villages of Sahiwal district. The health director-general told this agency here on Monday that the health authorities had directed the Multan division executive district officer to take necessary measures, including sampling of blood, stool, sputum and dispatching child specialists to the affected areas to check meningitis fever.

The DG also denied outbreak of meningitis in other parts of the province, and said rare cases did occur in the prevailing hot weather but not in the form of an epidemic as reported in a section of the press.

He said not a single patient of meningitis had been admitted to any other hospital.—APP
