KARACHI: The Commissioner Karachi Marathon will be staged in the city on Jan 27, the city administration announced here on Thursday.
Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shalwani, while speaking at a high level meeting held in his office on Thursday to discuss the arrangements for the marathon, said the city needs more sports activities and the city administration along with private and public sector organizations will ensure that the youth is engaged in constructive events throughout the year.
He further said that a press conference to outline the route and terms of competing in the marathon will be held next week.
The minimum age for the competing athletes in marathon has been set at 16 years.
The meeting was attended by former hockey captain Islahuddin, former Test spinner and NBP head of sports Iqbal Qasim, Secretary Sports Sindh Haroon Ahmed, all deputy commissioners, Karachi Athletics Association’s Gohar Raza, PSWA’s Shahida Parveen, sports patron Dr Farhan Essa, senior officials of municipal administration, PTF’s Khalid Shamsi, sports coordinator Ghulam Mohammad and representatives of corporate sector.
