FAISALABAD: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) is looking into illegalities regarding the sale of government-owned shops and usage of substandard construction material at the Faisalabad hockey stadium by the Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA).

The commissioner wrote 111 kanals and eight marlas, initially earmarked for low income housing scheme namely Madina Town Faisalabad, were later allocated for the hockey stadium by the Board of Revenue Punjab. The matter of substandard construction of building was referred to the chief minister through a summery by the then commissioner on March 27, 2016. The Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT) inspected the hockey stadium and found various faults in the construction of the building and proposed its immediate removal.

After receipt of the summary of the technical report of the CMIT, the FDA was to remove faults but to no avail. The commissioner wrote that in 2000, 40 shops on the ground floor were sold to private people by the FDA. ACE sources said they began investigation into the issue and sought relevant record from the FDA.

According to rules, they said the shops could be leased or rented.
