HYDERABAD, June 29: Hyderabad Cantonment Board president Brig Javed Iqbal Malik has announced the election schedule for four union councils of the cantonment. He has appointed Col Abdul Rashid as the returning officer for the election, to be held on July 30. Cantonment board chief executive officer Mohammad Naeem Jan Khan, who would be in-charge of administrative arrangements, said nomination papers could be obtained from July 17 and the first list of candidates would be published the same day.

He said scrutiny of nomination papers would be done on July 18 and 19 and appeals against the decision of the returning officer before the appellate authority could be filed on July 20 which would be disposed of by July 21.

He said nomination forms could be withdrawn by July 22 and the list of candidates would be finalized on July 25. He said the names of candidates along with their allotted symbols would be displayed on July 26.

Besides, he said, the list of polling stations would be published on July 6 and presiding/assistant presiding officers and polling officers would be appointed on July 8. A notice inviting nomination papers would be published on July 11.

Mr Khan told Dawn that a union council would have 21 members, seven of whom would be nominated by military authorities as per rules.—BoC
