SIALKOT: A minor student who was hospitalised a couple of days back following brutal torture by a schoolteacher, on Wednesday succumbed to his injuries.

According to local sources, Muhammad Zaman, a Class IV student of the Government Boys High School, Saahowali, Chamrangaan, Sialkot tehsil, was subjected to severe torture by a teacher, Azmat Abbas, a few days ago for remaining absent.

The student who suffered critical injuries was admitted to the Government Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital, where he died on Wednesday.

Following the child’s death, his family members, relatives and locals staged a protest demonstration, placing the victim’s body on the road near his school.

The protesters demanded arrest of the teacher, besides stern legal action against him. The suspect was reportedly in hiding to avert his possible arrest.

Later, after the funeral the minor was laid to rest in the local graveyard amid sobs and tears.

A large number of people attended the funeral.

Saddar police are investigating the matter.

District Education Authority CEO Younas Warraich said he had ordered a probe into the matter. He said a stern legal and departmental action would be taken against the suspect if he was found guilty.

MEDICAL CAMP: The Punjab Rangers on Wednesday held a free medical camp at a far-off bordering village, Dandot, in Zafarwal-Shakargarh Sector of the Working Boundary.

Senior officials of the Punjab Rangers inaugurated the medical camp.

On this occasion, they pledged better medical services to the residents of border villages.

At the camp Rangers’ medical teams checked the male and female patients from various villages and provided them free medication.
