CHITRAL: A sepoy of Chitral Levies was killed when an improvised explosive device went off on the roadside in Arandu village, while another IED was defused here on Saturday.

Deputy commissioner Khurshid Alam Mehsud told that the Chitral Levies man named Javed Khan was heading towards a post of the force when the explosion took place, killing him on the spot.

He was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Arandu with full official honour.

Chitral DC also participated in the funeral prayers.

Meanwhile, a mother of three children committed suicide by jumping into the Chitral River on Saturday.

The body was later retrieved from the river in Sheli Lusht area and was shifted to the DHQ hospital where her autopsy was carried out. The reason for the suicide could not be known, and the police have started investigations into the case.

This was the first incident of suicide in the current year, as more than 50 women ended their lives across the district lastyear.
