HYDERABAD, June 30: Roshan Rind, a woman homoeopath, who was allegedly kidnapped on the night of June 21 and forced to sign a marriage contract and other documents, has threatened to commit self-immolation if the culprits are not arrested and brought to justice. She was speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Thursday. Her brother, Jani Khan Rind, and mother were also present.

She said that at about 9:30pm on June 21, she was returning home along with Dr Wali Mohammad Khoso when they were stopped by three occupants of a car and a motorcyclist who trained revolvers on their heads and pushed her into the car. She identified the accused as Waris Rind, Jabbar Rind, Juman Shaikh and Ramzan Sheedi.

She said that when she started screaming, people of the area caught hold of the motorcyclist and handed him over to police.

She alleged that she had been kidnapped and kept in a house in Mallah Goth and was forced to sign a Nikahnama and some other documents. She said she was rescued by police the following day.

She said that the accused also tried to rape her but on her hue and cry they left her. She, however, complained of torture.

She said that after her recovery, she was kept at the Hatri police station for a day and at the women’s police station for two days. She complained that even Dr Wali Mohammad was detained by police for three days without any reason.

She said that her father, Manthar Rind, lodged an FIR at the Hatri police station but the FIR was not read over to him and, she alleged, police distorted the story and wrote the name of her sister, Gulshan, in the FIR, instead of her name. She accused police of supporting the accused.

Answering a question, she categorically denied that she was married to Waris Rind and added that the Nikahnama and other documents were fake. She said Waris Rind was 60 to 65 years old and she was only 20. She said she was a virgin.

Seeking protection, she said her family was being threatened with dire consequences.

When contacted on telephone, the Hatri police’s investigating wing said the woman’s medical examination report suggested that she had not been raped. But it also stated that the woman was not a virgin.

Police said Zakir Hussain, a brother-in-law of Waris Rind, had produced a Nikahnama of Waris and Roshan dated Nov 10, 2003, which had been performed after a free will affidavit, presented before justice of peace Ghulam Hyder. Police said permission for the Nikahnama had been obtained from a first class magistrate in Karachi.
