Couple caught in crossfire between police, suspects in Karachi

KARACHI: A man and his pregnant wife were wounded in firing carried out by police during an encounter with suspects who had snatched an official rifle in the Korangi area on Sunday night.
According to Awami Colony police and hospital officials, two policemen riding a motorbike tried to stop two suspects also on a motorcycle in Korangi-5 near Model Park. The suspects stopped and snatched the official rifle from one of the policemen. They fled after abandoning the rifle at a short distance.

DIG East Amir Farooqi admitted that passers-by Adnan Arfeen, 32, and Saqiba Khan, 28, sustained bullet injuries in the firing carried out by police.
The injured were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Dr Seemin Jamali, executive director of the hospital, said that the injured woman was pregnant and her condition was serious.
She said the woman had received bullet wounds in her chest and shoulder, while her husband sustained bullet wound in his head, but his condition was stable.
Police were investigating the case.
Meanwhile, Sindh IGP Dr Syed Kaleem Imam took notice of injuries to the couple in police firing and sought a detailed inquiry report from the Korangi SSP, said a police spokesperson.

By the way, the suspects fled but why the hell these policemen are shooting around, knowing fairly well that their doing so can cost someone their life? It is high time to focus on the training of police officials, who are not prepared to combat with terrorists and random attackers. The Army may be requested to extend helping hand for couple of years to train the police to a level that their fear of fight is overcome, as it has been observed that during the shootout, police generally loses control and go to berserk and fire randomly and without target, which result in collateral damages.

Why are effectively untrained personnel equipped with guns. in most cases policemen have not fired their guns in years and have no idea how to clean/ maintain them resulting in misfires and accidental deaths.

More than training it is the way they are recruited. To woo voters by distributing govt. Job or creating one even if not needed and in case of urban sindh ethnicity.
There is ambient urban and rural divide and upbringing which is playing havoc on cities which appear little civic. 2ndly law enforcement personnel take every incident personally and on formulae might is right.

For past few days cops through out Karachi have made pickets on main roads...only thing they are able to achieve from this is further resentment of the public...furthermore they are still carrying AK 47 and pointing towards public...this is a sub-machine-gun and it should not be allowed on the city's streets. In case if they do make a mistake, which is bound to happen, at least the victim would have a chance to survive if the bullets are of a lower caliber weapon.

The recruitment of the police officials in Sindh is by the Zardaris, Bhuttos, Talpurs, Shahs, sources and approaches.
Because of this they are incompetent, illiterate, uneducated, uncivilized, corrupt, etc.
