KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers Sindh on Thursday claimed to have arrested a suspect who along with his accomplices allegedly stole computerised national identity cards (CNICs) from a Nadra office in Landhi area on Wednesday.

After taking notice of media reports about the theft of CNICs from the Nadra office, the paramilitary force established a special team for inquiry, which ascertained causes of the incident.

Acting on intelligence-based information, the Rangers apprehended one suspect, Waleed Husain, from Landhi 3 1/2 area, said a paramilitary force spokesperson.

The official added that 803 stolen CNICs and two Benazir Income Support cards were also recovered from his custody.

“He was main suspect behind the incident,” claimed the Rangers official.

During initial probe, he “confessed” that they had stolen total 803 CNICs which he had kept at the home of his relative.

The suspect was handed over to the Landhi police for further action.
