The lost joys of reading

This is regarding the cover story “The lost joys of reading” by Yasmin Elahi (YW, January 5).

The article was wonderful. These days, kids are engrossed in fruitless activities. In my opinion, parents should discourage kids from using any gadget and encourage them to read.

One can start from small interesting storybooks and novels. It would be boring for kids at first, but they will ultimately develop the habit.

My dream city

This is with reference to the letter “My dream city” written by Hunain Asim (YW, January 5). I am also living in the city of lights, Karachi. I agree with the writer’s concerns but there are some other things to be taken into consideration.

Despite having bins around the city or one’s vicinity, people keep littering wherever they want to, in fact, nobody takes responsibility for his/her own actions resulting in Karachi’s deteriorating condition.

If we want a clean city we should make the effort to keep it clean and not leave it only for the authorities to do it. Whenever I am out, I throw litter in the bins, making people realise their duty.

Remember, if you throw your litter in the open, others will do the same. Hopefully one day everyone will try their best to make this city clean just like their own homes.

Young World

Young World magazine is going great! It makes us get into the habit of reading. I enjoy reading the interesting stories, motivational quotes and variety of other informative sections in it.

No doubt, the magazine is playing a very important role in making youngsters develop reading habit. I would like to request the YW team to start a section for English phrases and idiomatic expressions in the magazine.

II

There is no doubt that reading Young World is the best pastime. It is actually a world where one always finds something compelling to read. Young World is not just for tweens or teens, it contains such a wonderful content that adults also enjoy reading it.

This magazine opens a window of opportunity, develops people’s reading habit which has declined in recent years. It also provides a platform where young writers get the opportunity to enhance their writing skills. It is an invaluable source where one gets to know the thoughts of others as well. So instead of squandering away one’s precious time on social media and other activities, use this time in reading books and magazines.
