Hindu woman appointed civil judge

HYDERABAD: Suman Kumari has become the country’s first Hindu woman to have been appointed a civil judge after passing an examination for induction of judicial officers.
Ms Kumari, who hails from Qambar-Shahdadkot, will serve in her native district.
Suman Kumari passed her LL.B. examination from Hyderabad and did her masters in law from Karachi’s Szabist University. She then worked for Advocate Rasheed A. Razvi’s firm.
Suman Kumari fears that her community would not appreciate her decision to become a lawyer, but “I am confident my family will stand by me come what may”.
She is a fan of singers Lata Mangeshkar and Atif Aslam.
According to Dr Pawan Kumar Bodan, her father, Suman wants to provide free legal assistance to the poor in Qambar-Shahdadkot. “Suman has opted for a challenging profession, but I am sure she will go places through hard work and honesty,” the father said. Dr Bodan is an eye specialist while Suman’s elder sister is a software engineer and another sister is a chartered accountant.

Hope someday women and minorities holding various positions based on merit becomes a norm for our country. Interesting that Fatima Jinnah led efforts to represent women at a time when many countries didn't even allow women to vote and then things moved in the wrong direction in our society. Nothing special. One should be away from religious angle to all appointments. All appointment should be on the basis of merit and nothing else.
Stop congratulating Sumanji on the basis that she is from Hindu community or she is female. Appreciate her that the lady has merit and wish her best to give courage to perform her duties to her best.

@Ray, Civil judges are appointed on the basis of an exam under the supervision of the higher judiciary. It is all her achievement. She has not been given a hand out as can be presumed if one were to make a comment saying "Good step"

As excepted Only in Sindh. Why Punjab never appoint minorities like hindu, Sikh or Christian to higher positions in Punjab government? Punjab has over 110 million people. Punjab government must learn from sindh government.

Excellent accomplishment by Suman Kumari. I hope more non-Muslim citizens will join the judicial system and the government to create an evenhanded and harmonious society. Jinnah’s vision of equal citizenship regardless of faith and ethnicity needs to be implemented by the parliament and the government

A welcome development, we need many more high profile high achieving & sympathetic role models for women especially from among ethnic or religious minorities.
Malala Yusufzai, Asma Jahangir, Parveen Rehman, BB, Sherry Rehman have broken the stereotype of women being victims. Let us hope many more from minorities will join them to challenge women's marginalization. Citizens must take their rightful place in our society with access to equal opportunities in all spheres, irrespective of gender, creed, kinship or patronage.
