LAHORE: Wapda’s trio of Aoun Abbas, Ali Mehdi and Azeem Sarwar and Murad Ali of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) reached the men’s singles semi-finals of the 56th National Badminton Championships here on Tuesday.

In the women’s singles event too, three Wapda players Mahoor Shahzad, Sehra Akram and Aneela Irshad along with Ghazala Siddique (SNGPL) made it to the last four.

The men’s doubles event entered the semi-final stage.

In the men’s singles quarter-finals, Aoun overcame tense moments before beating M Tahir Khan of Police 21-13, 12-21, 21-16. The remaining three quarter-finals remained one-sided.

Similarly, in the women’s section, Aneela Irshad was the lone contender, who stretched to three setters to topple Bushra Akram in an all-Wapda quarter-final with the score being 21-19, 15-21, 21-14.
