SAHIWAL: The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the Sahiwal killings on Tuesday postponed the identification parade of six Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials who are on seven-day judicial remand in the central jail.

The identification parade was expected on the premises of the jail in the afternoon but none of the family members of deceased Mohammad Khalil or any eyewitness showed up to identify the suspects.

Earlier, a witness had told reporters that they were tired of appearing before the police and CTD. “Why are they wasting our time in the presence of so many video clips of the operation?” the witness had said.

An official source said complainant Muhammad Jalil was in Islamabad to meet the Senate Standing Committee on Interior and therefore he could not make it to Sahiwal. He said an officer of the Yousafwal police station had visited Mr Jalil’s family in Lahore on Monday and had asked them to visit Sahiwal for the identification parade.

Mr Jalil told Dawn that they had clearly told the officer they could not come to Sahiwal because they had to appear before the Senate committee.

He said he was not satisfied with the way the JIT and police were following the case and demanded the formation of a judicial commission.

Sadar DSP Falik Sher — a member of the JIT— said a new date would be given to the complainant for identification of the suspects.
