KOHAT: Deputy commissioner, Kohat, Matiullah Khan visited potential sites for the Asian Development Bank-funded shopping plaza for women and shelter home at Milam Centre and Liaquat Memorial Hospital in the city on Thursday.

On this occasion, he said that the ADP would provide funds for establishment of separate shopping plaza for women where only items of their needs and interest would be available.

Accompanied by other officials, he also went to Kotal Township to inspect a welfare centre and to select a site for women crisis centre.He asked the officials concerned to submit reports in this regard as early as possible.

12 ARRESTED: The police and special branch officials arrested 12 people for betting on Pakistan-South Africa cricket match and recovered a big amount of stake money during operations in the city on Wednesday night.

A statement issued here said that district police officer Wahid Mehmood had been receiving reports about betting on matches for the last few days. SHO city Ayatullah Khan arrested nine persons for putting money on each and every ball and expected scores. An FIR has been registered against the suspects.

Similarly, SHO cantonment Qismat Khan arrested three such gamblers. A case has been registered against them.

Meanwhile, a police team of Thall tehsil was rewarded for arresting a drug smuggler who was later awarded 14 years imprisonment and by the court.

DIG Mohammad Ijaz gave away cash and commendation certificates to SHO, Thall, sub-inspector Ameer Zaman and four other officials, said a statement.

ULEMA’S MEET: Participants of a meeting of Alami Majlis Tahafuz Khatm-i-Nabuwwat have urged the ulema to pass resolutions in their Friday sermons against release of Aasia Bibi in a blasphemy case.

Tahafuz-i-Namoos-i-Risalat, Kohat, chief Maulana Mujahideen, who was in the chair, said a rally would be taken out on Friday.
