SUKKUR, July 3: The city and adjoining areas were cut off from the rest of the country for approximately two and a half hours after telephone network collapsed on Sunday evening due to low voltage in the main exchange.

Almost the entire phone network in the city went out of order at about 4:30pm on Sunday which was restored at about 7:00pm.

The deputy general manager of the STR-V, Sukkur, Abdul Jabbar Ansari, told this correspondent that the system was disrupted due to low voltage by Hesco.

He said standby generator started automatically and the load was shifted to batteries but it failed to start the system.

Later, a Siemens engineer was contacted in Hyderabad who helped to energize the system one by one and finally the system was fully restored after a lapse of about two and half hours.

He said the system was now working smoothly.
