OKARA: The University of Okara will double its students admission strength from the next admission year in July-August this year.

At present 5,000 students are studying in the institution.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar told media here on Thursday that the university had formed a research committee to gather information about study interest of students at higher secondary schools and colleges in Okara and adjoining districts.

This research committee, he said, would recommend the introduction of new disciplines in the university in the light of its research.

The VC said he wanted to promote evidence-based study through joint venture of the society, university and industry. He said 150 pubic sector universities in the country were not commercial and offering education against nominal fees.

Prof Zakria said public sector universities must fulfill their responsibility to reduce gender and social inequality.
