KARACHI: The Dawood University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) and the Isra University (Karachi campus) held their convocations on Saturday on their campuses.

At the 6th DUET convocation, 404 students received degrees and certificates.

Gold medal recipients were Muslim Ali (two gold medals), Alina Saif and Muhammad Irfan Khan whereas students who secured second and third positions in their respective departments received merit certificates.

Congratulating students, Sindh Gover­nor Imran Ismail advised them to pursue their dreams as they liked but their dreams shouldn’t be without Pakistan.

“It’s time to pay back to the country which helped you to be what you are today. Pakistan deserves to offer success stories to the world, which we have not been able to do over the years for one reason or another. But, you should come forward and become an inspiration for others,” he said.

Vice chancellor Prof Faizullah Abbasi spoke about the university’s progress and said that the institution was committed to delivering high standards of professional education and training.

He acknowledged the government support and appreciated faculty members for their hard work and said everyone should contribute to make the university great again.

Chairman Engro Corporation Hussain Dawood also spoke.

Isra convocation

At Isra University’s fourth convocation, 214 students received degrees in medical sciences and allied medical sciences.

This year, Kamran Iftikar (MBBS graduate), Rabia Siddique Ahmed (doctor of physical therapy graduate) and Anam (vision sciences programme graduate) received gold medals.

In his speech, university Chancellor Prof Asadullah Kazi urged students to be competitive and participative to enhance their knowledge.

“There can be no development without participation and there can be no participation without communication in this age of digital literacy,” he said.

He also highlighted the university’s milestones and said it had made tremendous progress with its campuses in Hyderabad, Karachi and Islamabad since its inception 19 years ago.

Congratulating students, President of Isra Islamic Foundation Prof Ghulamqadir Kazi said that the main purpose of such events was not only to confer degrees on students, but also to honour those who had performed meritoriously.

Advising students, he said: “It does not take great men to do things but it is doing things that make men great. I want you to become great, as we have high hopes from you. You are the leaders of tomorrow so get yourself prepared for future’s challenges”.

Vice Chancellor Prof Abdul Rashid Shaikh also spoke.

During the event, 158 students received degree for the bachelor’s in medical sciences, vision sciences and physical therapy, whereas 55 postgraduate degrees were awarded in different programmes of medical and allied medical sciences.
