Puff pastry dough is very versatile; you can use it in countless ways to come up with whatever you are in the mood of, both sweet and savoury. And when you are using store bought dough, all you have to do is roll it, put whatever you like in it, fold it in anyway and it gets baked in 15 minutes!

Today we are filling up our puff pastry dough with a pizza-like filling to make a large patty. You can use the same ingredients or substitute with whatever you are in the mood of eating.

Ingredients

• 400g puff pastry dough

• 1 cup chicken pieces, cooked in any flavour

• 1 cup grated cheese

• 1/2 cup tomato ketchup/chilli garlic sauce

• 1/2 cup spring onions, sliced

• 1/2 cup tomatoes, sliced

• 1/2 teaspoon crushed chillies

• Egg for brushing

Method

Preheat the oven at 200 degrees centigrade. Make sure the dough is at room temperature, roll it into a large rectangle. Cut it from the centre, we will use one slice for the base and the other for the top. Now spread ketchup on the slice, you can also use pizza sauce or chilli garlic sauce. Then evenly top it with spring onions, chicken pieces, tomatoes and lastly cheese. I also sprinkled some crushed chillies as I have used simple ketchup, if you are using chilli garlic sauce, then don’t put crushed chillies.

Now cover this with the other layer of pastry, if they are not equal from any side, just pull on it gently and it will spread to the desired size.

Take a fork and seal the edges by pressing the dough with the tines. You can use a knife to make lines on top that are not too deep that they make a hole in the dough. Brush the top with beaten egg to give it a gloss.

Transfer over a baking sheet placed on a baking tray. There is no need for greasing the sheet or the tray.

Bake in an oven for about 15 minute and use the top grill to give a brown shade to the top crust by baking for another couple of minutes.

Cut into squares and serve hot!
