There are times when even the best minds in the world can’t crack a case and The Lego Movie 2 — The Second Part is one such case. There was no need to come up with a movie that was neither at par with the first part, nor did it resemble the Lego Batman Movie. It was as forgettable as The Lego Ninjago Movie that came out in 2017 and went without a trace because of being nothing out of the ordinary.

Yes, the film had its moments, but after Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, to go back to something that should have been better is like taking advantage of the (young) audience. The plot takes place five years after the events of the first movie in which Emmet (Chris Pratt) saves his universe from being Kragled; but since Emmet still believes in his ‘Everything is Awesome’ theory. His positivity attracts General Mayhem (Stephanie Beatriz) who kidnaps a handful of his friends, including Lucy (Elizabeth Banks) and Batman (Will Arnett).

The plot thickens when the captive planet’s queen Watevra Wa-Nabi (Tiffany Hadish) announces that she will wed Batman, giving Emmet literally no time to save his friends. Would he be able to make it to the wedding on time to rescue his friends or destiny has something else in store for him, watch the movie to know more. All you need to know is that Emmet is helped by a mystery friend who is a mixture of most of the characters played by Chris Pratt, the actor who plays Emmet in the series. Interesting, isn’t it?

Just like in the first part, some action also takes place in the ‘human’ world where a brother-sister duo fears Mum, who basically has more to do with the Lego world than the real one. It does simplify things but still lacks the originality and the stupidity of the last one. Had the plot been a little simple and the storyline been more in the shadow of the original Lego films, it would have become kids’ favourite, which it didn’t. Even Batman didn’t look like his old self as he was shown to have been captured than be the the rescuer.

Everything Was Not Awesome this time when everyone wanted it to be!
