PESHAWAR: A woman and her daughter died in Hangu while a man was killed and his three children suffered injuries in Nawagi tehsil of Bajaur in house collapse incidents as heavy rains lashed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the second consecutive day on Wednesday.
In Hangu, police said that a house collapsed in Gulshanabad area late on Tuesday night. The property belonged to Hakeem Khan. Officials said that a woman and her daughter were buried alive under the debris. Local people rushed to the site and retrieved the bodies.
The deceased had been identified as Bismillah Jana (45), wife of Hakeem, and Javeria (5). They belonged to Orakzai tribal district.
Rain started in Hangu on Tuesday while upper parts of Orakzai received snow.
In Khar, the district administration officials and local people said that a man was killed and his three children were wounded when their house collapsed due to rain in Nawagi tehsil of Bajaur tribal district on Wednesday.
Heavy rain lashes KP on second consecutive day
They said that the incident occurred in Mamozo village near Nawagi town. They said that Haji Zar Khan and some of his family members were sitting in a room when their house collapsed owing to heavy rain.
As a result, Haji Zar Khan, head of the family, died on the spot while his three children received critical wounds. Local people shifted the wounded to the DHQ hospital, Khar.
In Charsadda, four children were injured when roof of a local madressah collapsed due to rain in Qayyumabad village of Sherpao area.
Rescue 1122 personnel retrieved the injured children from the rubble and took them to tehsil headquarters hospital, Tangi.
Meanwhile, moderate snowfall has been reported from parts of Malakand and Hazara divisions and Kurram tribal district. Cold wave swept across the region due to heavy downpour in plain areas and snowfall in the Hindukush range.
Heavy rains and snow was reported from Kurram district. Parachinar, the district headquarters, received light snow on Wednesday. Met office said that 25mm rain had been recorded during the last 24 hours.
Weather got chilly in Kalam hill station of Swat after snowfall and mercury dropped to minus 13 degrees Celsius. Met office said that Kalam received one inch snow and Malam Jabba two inches of snow. Galiyat (Abbottabad), upper parts of Chitral, Swat, Lower Dir and Upper Dir received rain and snow.
The Met observatories at Peshawar airport and city recorded 16mm and 15mm rain, respectively. Continuous rain brought temperature to 8 degrees Celsius in the provincial capital.
Rainwater submerged the main roads in Peshawar, particularly the University Road, because of the construction work on Bus Rapid Transit project. Slush and rainwater caused inconvenience to commuters and resulted in heavy traffic jam. More rains are expected in Peshawar and other parts of the province during next 24 hours.
