KOHAT: The police on Sunday foiled an attempt to smuggle weapons from gun manufacturing town of Darra Adamkhel to Punjab through unfrequented mountainous route of Shindhand here.

ASP Nabeel Khokhar told journalists that a team was on a routine patrol when it spotted suspicious persons carrying gunny bags on their backs. They were asked to stop but instead they threw the bags and disappeared in the mountains, he added.

He said a team led by SHO Bilitang opened the bags and found three Kalashnikovs, four kalakovs, 40 pistols and 39 chargers.

The police registered case against the smugglers and launched investigations.

Also, the police arrested the mastermind of attacks on a shrine and other centuries-old graves in search of treasure trove.

Following the attacks, district police officer had formed an investigation team headed by SP Silahuddin who conducted investigations and arrested many people on suspicion.

The mastermind of the criminal gang, Irshad Rehman, was arrested along with two accomplices, and an excavator was also seized from their place.
