KOHAT: Police claimed to have seized huge quantity of hashish being smuggled from Khyber tribal district to down country at Muslimabad checkpoint on Indus Highway and arrested two smugglers here on Monday.

ASP Nabeel Khokhar told journalists that Jarma police stopped a suspicious car coming from Peshawar side at the checkpost. During its search, they found more than eight kilograms of hashish, he said. He added that police arrested two drug smugglers identified as Shahabud Din and Hari Khan belonging to Khyber tribal district.

The ASP said that the arrested persons were shifted to the police station where they admitted that they had taken the consignment from Khyber tribal district for the down country. Police handed over them to the investigation branch after registration of case.

Meanwhile, Adviser to Chief Minister Ziaullah Bangash inaugurated a tubewell in Tappi on Monday.

He said that the problems of people would be solved on priority basis at their doorsteps.

In the welcome address, local elder Malik Mohammad Khan demanded urgent pavement of drains and streets and supply of natural gas to the area.

The function was attended by PTI leader Malik Mohammad Atif, councillor Abdullah Khan, Pir Masoom Shah, Janbaz Khan, Fazal Mehmood, Shahid Mehmood and Malik Mansoor Khan.
