HARIPUR: Unknown burglars shot dead a watchman before looting seven shops near Changi Bandhi bus stop on the GT Road here on Sunday.

Sera-i-Saleh police officials said Saifullah a resident of Toru Dhok village, was serving as night watchman in the Changi Bandhi bus stop market.

On Sunday morning, Saifullah’s body was found on the backside of the market and locks of at least seven shops were also broken. Police said the preliminary investigation suggested that some unknown robbers would have been caught by the watchman who would have certainly put up resistance which led to his murder.

They said the armed thieves first fastened Saif with a rope and then shot him in the head which caused his death on the spot. According to shop owners the burglars deprived them of cash and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees.
