LAHORE: Prosecution Minister Chaudhry Zaheeruddin on Saturday asked prosecutors of all ranks in Punjab to continue enhancing their skills to help the government ensure punishment of criminals particularly terrorists.

He was speaking at a local hotel where he distributed certificates among 22 district prosecutor generals and 122 assistant prosecutor generals who have completed their promotion related training at the department’s Centre for Professional Development (CPD).

The assistant prosecutor generals have already been promoted to the rank of district prosecutor generals. And the promotion of 22 district prosecutor generals to the rank of additional prosecutor generals is due shortly.

The minister said the government would amend laws and rules, if required to improve the working conditions and status of prosecutors in the province because of the importance of their job in having the outlaws particularly terrorists punished under the law.

He appreciated the performance of the CPD in giving proper training to prosecutors of all ranks for the first time in the history of the country. The CPD was far ahead of other provinces in delivering its duty of producing prosecutors well versed not only in law but also in the use of scientific evidence.

Secretary Prosecution Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry said the training at CPD was meant for keeping prosecutors combat-ready. He promised promotion of the 22 senior district prosecutors in near future.

Prosecutor General Ehtesham Qadir Shah and CPD Director Chaudhry Muhammad Jehangir also spoke on the occasion.
