ABBOTTABAD: District police officer Abbas Majeed Marwat on Tuesday ordered the start of an effective crackdown on narcotics sellers in Abbottabad.
Chairing the police’s monthly review meeting here, the DPO also issued orders for strict action against violators of traffic laws, especially those travelling on the roofs of buses.
He said the police should take an immediate action on the people’s complaints lodged with them by any source.
The police officials told the DPO that eight riffles, 87 shotguns and 83 pistols were seized in the district last month.
They said the police also arrested 20 criminals and booked 830 people for being involved in heinous crimes.
The officials said the police held the people involved in the murder of notable Mohammad Jan along with 22 facilitators.
The meeting was attended by additional SP Sonia Shamroz Khan, SP (investigation) Abdul Aziz Afridi, DSP (traffic) Mohammad Ishtiaq, DSP Nazia Noreen, SDPOs and SHOs of the district.
Meanwhile, dean and acting hospital director of the Ayub Medical Teaching Institution Prof UmerFarooq has been made a member of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.
A community medicine expert with a doctorate’s degree in public health, Prof Umer said he believed that the newly-formed Council had an excellent opportunity to bring medical education and practice in the country on a par with international standards.
“I hope that all council members will utilise their experience to help improve medical education and healthcare in the country in line with international standards,” he said.
