LAHORE: The National Grass Court Tennis Championships started with qualifying round played here at the Punjab Tennis Coaching Academy, Bagh-e-Jinnah on Monday.
Due to a large number of participants in the event, a draw of 64 was chalked out for the qualifying place in open category.
All the qualifying matches were played on Monday at the grass courts. Top eight amongst the qualifiers will be included in the main draw of men’s singles.
The formal inauguration of the event will be held on Tuesday.
Rashid Malik, secretary Punjab Lawn Tennis Association and a former Davis Cupper, said players will enjoy their stay in the contest.
Rashid said that the contests will be held in different age categories including men’s and women’s singles and doubles, U-12, U-14, U-18 for boys, men’s doubles (over 35 and 40 years), over-45 singles and over-60 doubles.U-6 and U-8 categories are also included.
Rashid said overall 300 players have registered their names for participation. All national players are included in the list.
