LAYYAH: An ice candy man attempted self-immolation after a team of the Punjab Food Authority imposed penalty on him on Tuesday.

Amjad Hussain had installed a permanent cart at Fawara Chowk to sell ice candies (Qulfi).

A PFA team clamped a fine of Rs40,000 on him for allegedly making substandard product. Amjad got depressed and he sprinkled petrol on his body and set himself on fire.

Rescue 1122 shifted him to DHQ hospital.

According to the doctor, 20 per cent of his body is burnt and he is stable.

Amjad told this correspondent that his cart was raided and sealed last month and he spent thousands of rupees to get it released. On Tuesday, the food authorities raided the area and imposed fine on him.
