BAHAWALNAGAR: A 12-year-old boy fainted after he was allegedly thrashed with an iron rod by his seminary teacher in Fort Abbas on Thursday.

Family of the tortured boy, Zeeshan Haidar, approached police and demanded action against Qari Muhammad Nafees. However, the suspect managed his escape to avoid arrest.

The boy has injury marks over his body, including face. Fort Abbas police have sent the boy to THQ Hospital for medical examination.

His family said Zeeshan had allegedly been beaten in the past also. A first information report would be registered after medical examination, SHO Hamid Shah said.

FIR: A case has been registered under the Telegraph Act on Thursday against a man for hurling life threats at journalists for covering a murder incident in Marot after the recording of the phone call went viral on social media.

Reports said journalists from the Marot press club reported a murder in the name of honour by a man named Rahmat Ali, who shot his wife Naseem Bibi dead at his home at Chak 318. After the murder, a case under Section 302 was registered on the complaint of the victim’s mother. As some TV journalists reported the murder, they received threatening phone calls from [deceased] Naseem’s brother Abdul Majeed.

He threatened the journalists with dire consequences. After the recording of the call went viral on social media and protest by journalist organisations, Marot SHO Azmat Shaheen on the instructions of the Bahawalnagar DPO registered a case.
