Muzammil ousts Abid to set final date with Aqeel

LAHORE: Third seed Muzamil Murtaza overwhelmed second-seeded Mohammad Abid to set up a title showdown with top seed Aqeel Khan in the men’s singles competition at the third Shehryar Malik Memorial National Grass Court Tennis Championships here at PLTA courts on Friday.

Muzammil cruised past Abid 6-3, 6-1 while Aqeel ousted Yousaf Khalil 6-3, 6-3, spending a mere 35 minutes on the court.

Sara Mansoor and Sarah Mehboob will contest the ladies final with both scoring dominant wins in their semi-finals.

Men’s singles (semi-finals): Aqeel Khan bt Yousaf Khalil 6-3, 6-3; Muzamil Murtaza bt Mohammad Abid 6-3, 6-1.

Ladies’ singles (semi-finals): Sara Mansoor bt Mehak Khokhar 6-1, 6-1; Sarah Mehboob bt Noor Malik 6-2, 6-1.

Boys’ U-18 (semi-finals): Ahmad Kamil bt Nauman Aftab 6-4, 6-3; Abdullah Adnan bt Mahatir 6-1, 6-4.

Boys’ U-12 (quarter-finals): Hamza Roman bt Haider Ali Rizwan 4-1, 4-1; Asad bt Hania Minhas 4-1, 5-3; Ahtesham Humayun bt Hamza Ali Rizwan 4-0, 4-1; Husnain Ali Rizwan bt Ali Jawad 4-1, 4-0.

Seniors 60 plus doubles (semi-finals):Maj Saeed/Inam-ul-Haq bt Ashfaq Chohan/Faisal Sharif 6-0, 6-0; Brig Ghazanfar/Babar bt Gul Hamid/Mehboob Khan 6-1, 6-0.
