KOHAT: The police arrested scores of Afghan refugees during an operation in Ghamkol refugee camp and adjacent areas and seized weapons on Sunday on the basis of intelligence reports.

A statement issued here said the operation was supervised by SP operations Silahuddin Kundi and led by SHO Sabir Hussain. Elite Force, bomb disposal unit and women police personnel also participated in the action.

The area had been cordoned off before the operation and nobody was allowed to enter or leave the area. In all, over 50 suspicious people were held and shifted to police station fort interrogation.

During search of the houses the police also recovered six Kalashnikovs, a shotgun, six pistols and 300 cartridges.

PANIC GRIPS PEOPLE: Panic gripped the residents of Shin Dhand area after a fighter jet crossed the sound barrier in early hours on Sunday. The people ran out from their houses considering it to be a bomb blast and remained under fear for long time. Men, women and children did not enter their houses until it was confirmed that there was no case of bomb blast.
