SWABI: The Swabi tehsil government has allocated Rs10 million for purchasing sewing machines to be distributed among the poor women to help them earn their living with dignity and honour, sources told Dawn on Tuesday.

They said under the plan sewing machines would be given to the women welfare bodies which are imparting vocational training to the womenfolk.

The sources said a survey would be conducted to identify the deserving women to be given the sewing machines.

An official said the amount allocated for purchasing machines was the discretionary fund of tehsil nazim Wahid Shah. “We plan to purchase the sewing machines soon,” he said.

ANTI-POLIO CAMPAIGN: Over 860 teams have been constituted to conduct a three-day anti-polio campaign in the district.

District health officer Dr Niaz Mohammad told mediapersons on Tuesday that 283,000 children under five years of age would be targeted during the campaign.

He said transit teams would vaccinate children at the designated places.

The official said any refusal case would immediately be reported by the teams to the DHO office and then forwarded to the officials concerned for necessary action.
