KOHAT: Two youngsters, including an employee of information department, were killed and as many were injured in separate road accidents on Sunday.
The first incident occurred in Gumbat when a motorcyclist, Faheem Ahmed, was hit by a running train while crossing the track.
His body was sent to his native Taulanj village for burial.
In another incident, three motorcyclists going to take 10th grade examination on a motorcycle, were hit by a mini truck near the police lines. One of them, Zahid Iqbal, died on the spot, while the two others were injured.
The injured, Fayyaz and Iftikhar, were shifted to the KDA Teaching Hospital where they were admitted for treatment.
The truck driver fled the scene leaving behind the truck which was impounded by the police and a case was registered against him.
Meanwhile, chairing a high-level meeting on Sunday district police officer Wahid Mehmood asked all the SHOs and circle officers to involve clerics in controlling crime through Friday sermons and daily sessions at mosques.
The ulema should warn people against gambling, drug use, firing in the air, kite flying, extortion, illegal interest on lending money and other moral and social menaces in light of Quran and Hadith, he said.
Similarly, he called for placing a complaint register at every police station where people should register their grievances against the police and about disputes.
He said police should avoid illegal confinement and torture of the accused and take immediate action in case of street crimes.
BAR POLLS: The Kohat Bar Association elected Javed Panji as president for the fourth consecutive term, for the year 2019, on Sunday.
The election committee members declared Panji president who defeated Riaz Advocate by 32 votes.
Ishtiaq Khattak was elected secretary general, while those who won unopposed were Tariq Altaf Sani vice president, Qasim Bokahri joint secretary, Rohit Kumar finance secretary, Asif Paracha librarian and executive members, Zebun Nissa and Nadia Gul.
