HYDERABAD, July 11: The National Labour Federation has condemned undue increase in prices of petrol and other essential items and said that the government has miserably failed in controlling the price hike. The provincial executive committee of the NLF at a meeting held here on Monday also condemned the privatisation of PTCL and the proposed privatisation of Pakistan Steel, Pakistan State Oil, Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works and KESC and said that the present government was working against the interests of the country and the working class.
It regretted that as promised by the government, no amendments have so far been made in the Industrial Relations Ordinance 2002.
Expressing grave concern over the contract system, it said that through this system, local people were being rendered jobless and labour laws were being openly violated.
The meeting observed that 40 per cent of workers have not been included in the social security scheme which spoke volumes for the corrupt practices in the social security offices.
It said that the present commissioner of the Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI) was directly responsible for the rampant corrupt practice in the institute.
It demanded of the chairman of Employees Old-age Benefit Institution (EOBI) to remove the director of the regional office as the office has become a centre of corruption.
It severely criticized the alleged victimisation of the workers of Army Welfare Sugar Mills, Badin and demanded removal of general manager of the mill.
It condemned the inordinate delay in the payment of salaries to the HDA employees and demanded the removal of the Director-General HDA and the Managing Director of WASA.
WALK: Population welfare department staged a walk here on Monday to mark the World Population Day.
The participants after marching on main city roads gathered outside the local press club.
Nazeer Soomro, reported to be the tallest man of the world, led the walk.
The speakers said that the population of the world was increasing at the rate of 1.92 per cent per annum and added that if the growth of the population was not checked, it will double in 37 years.
HUNGER STRIKE: Manjhand Shehri Ittehad chairman Mohammad Saleh Memon started a hunger strike unto death outside the press club here on Monday against shifting of offices of the Manjhand taluka to Sann.
