HARIPUR: A cancer patient committed suicide, while a jobless man was rescued after he attempted to end his life by consuming anti-rodent pills, police said on Saturday.

The first incident was reported from Khoi Nara village in Khanpur tehsil where Abdul Waheed, 41, a cancer patient, killed himself by hanging from a ceiling fan.

Police quoted family sources as saying that Waheed had been suffering from cancer for last over 10 years and was unable to bear the cost of treatment. Fed up with the killer disease and costly treatment, according to family, he hanged himself in his bedroom on Friday night.

The second suicide was reported from Mohallah Katha of Kotnajibullah village.

Police said Mohammad Waheed, 29, got up late on Saturday morning and asked his sister-in-law for the breakfast, but scolded him for being jobless and late riser which infuriated him to the extent that he went into his room and consumed anti-rodent pills.

However, after some time when his condition worsened he was removed to the Haripur Trauma Centre where his stomach was washed and his condition was out of danger, police and hospital sources said.
