MIANWALI: The district food department has finalised arrangements for achieving the purchase target of 570,000 gunny bags from the district set by the provincial government.
District Food Controller (DFC) Shah Nawaz Chohan told Dawn that they had established six purchase centres in three tehsils of the district -- Mianwali, Sawans and Wan-Bhachran in Mianwali tehsil; Isakhel and Mari Indus in Isakhel tehsil; and Piplan in Piplan tehsil.
The list of wheat growers provided by the revenue department for supply of bardana (gunny bags) has been displayed at each purchase centre, assistant commissioners’ offices of each tehsil and DFC office Mianwali.
He further said that applications were invited for supply of gunny bags from April 8 to 17 and the distribution will begin from April 22. The distribution will be done on first come, first served basis in a transparent manner and growers have been advised to consult their nearest purchase centre to avoid any hindrance.
ACCIDENT: A Lahore-bound passenger bus from Shakardara fell off the road in a hilly area near Bangi Khel injuring seven passengers, including a woman, on Saturday afternoon.
As per police, the bus was passing through a hilly area when on a turn near Bangi Khel, 45 kilometres from here, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it fell off the road.
All the injured passengers, including the driver, were rushed to Kalabagh THQ Hospital. Three of the seriously injured were referred to the Mianwali DHQ Hospital.
The injured were identified as driver Muhammad Aslam of Sheikhupura, Hina Omer of Tola Bangi Khel, Abdul Hussain of Shakardara, Fazalur Rehman of Mianwali, Mohammad Akhtar of Sargodha and Kamran Khan of Tola Bangi Khel.
