135,000 apartments to be built in first phase of Naya Pakistan Housing project: Fawad Chaudhry

The federal cabinet has decided to kick start the Naya Pakistan Housing Authority project with the construction of 135,000 apartments, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said on Tuesday.
The information minister was addressing the media in Islamabad after a cabinet meeting. He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan will launch the project on April 17 in the capital where 25,000 apartments will be built for federal government employees.
The remaining 110,000 apartments will be built in Balochistan, Chaudhry said. He added that the project includes a housing society for the fishermen in Gwadar.
"For the first time, fishermen will have a roof over their heads and they will be given modern accommodation," the information minister announced.
The prime minister had promised to build five million houses in an October 2018 launch ceremony of the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme.
Earlier, Minister for Housing and Works Tariq Bashir Cheema had told the National Assembly Standing Committee on Housing and Works that the housing project will be launched by the prime minister in Quetta after April 20.
The federal cabinet, in its meeting today, also decided to take action against people responsible for power and gas theft, Chaudhry told the media. He said that Prime Minister Khan had instructed relevant authorities to hold the "big thieves" accountable first so that "an example can be set".

On the face of it housing plan looks to be very magnetic not just pleasing but yet its logistics must be spelled out in black and white so that a commoner, not just cabinet ministers in general or Information Minister in particular, understands it. Summing up I wish PTI government must tell us (a) what could be the price of 10 marla plot in Islamabad (b) what accommodation will be built on the plot (c) how the builder is selected to construct the houses (d) when the units will be completed (d) how much one house will cost? How fortunate 25,000 will be selected in Islamabad? Will it be given free or on payment, total cash or installments? Needless to mention, if PM Imran delivers the houses to poor homeless people all over Pakistan as he promised to the nation I guarantee that Zardari or Bilawal or Maryam or Hamza are just of race and Imran will be the PM throughout this century. Don"t squander national.wealth on.constructing houses for poor and needy! Arrest Riaz Malik, keep him.in prison without eligibility for bail, unless he promises or furnishes guarantee to make houses for poors free of cost on the land on which he is holding adverse possession for years illegally immorally and unreasonably, without paying or depositing due amount.

"25,000 apartments will be built for federal government employees", seriously, govt already paying them enough with house rent, confirm pensions not like what we got in form of EOBI, utility allowance and now even a single scheme which must be for general public, govt took 25% share of pie to federal government employees, whom already have job security and all other social security, what about us whom work in private sector, where we didn't even a bit of what you are offer to your employees and yet discrimination happens again, as in such hard economic times where we don't need the government support most they cut our share to their own.

More Agr land, 3 times higher productivity, employment and Income are sequentially more important priorities for eradicating poverty. ADP resources must be moved from extremely low to extremely high productivity schemes. Promotions must be tied to capacity enhancement using internet.

The people will take a bank mortgage and pay instead of paying rent. That is what people do in the West. It is cheaper than renting because after several years the property belongs to the person. This project if for the middle classes.

Housing/apartments for citizens is a great project. However, the government needs to get out of the obligation of providing free or subsidized housing for government employees. No government can afford to provide housing to its employees at the expense of public exchequer -

It is all very well but with budgetary issues, wonder how it can be financed. The Government should perhaps consider asking people to contribute for project ‘Low Cost Housing’ whereby people buy tickets for a weekly draw of which after expenses and taxes, allocate one half towards project finance with the other half paid to the winner of the lucky draw.

@Ali Bhai....You are absolutely right.PM Imran Khan has promised to built 5 million houses for poor and needy people who actually doesn't have their own home not for government employees who are actually earning more than their needs.PM Khan should specify a quota system for government empolyees as well as for disabled persons because it is there right first and the rest of houses must be given to people who doesn't have their own houses.

Mr. Fawad Chaudhry, give the indigenous population of Gwadar what they want, not what you want. Their lifestyle for centuries is by living in a compound and not in a flat. After they are uprooted from their present location, the new location must have all the infrastructure for maintaining their livelihoods as fishing is the only business that they know. The beaches have been forcefully snatched from them in the name of development and it's the turn to take away their. Under the circumstances being in their shoes, would you consider developmeny of Gwadar as a blessing or a curse?
