HARIPUR: The Haripur district government and the district sports department jointly organised a daylong sports gala for girls students on Monday.

Girls from different public and private sector educational institutions took part in the gala and exhibited their sports skills both in outdoor and indoor sports. Cricket, volleyball, table tennis, lawn tennis, football were the sports the female students played during the gala.

On the occasion, district nazim Akhtar Nawaz Khan said PTI government was according equal importance to the participation of women in sports activities.

In Lower Dir, district nazim Mohammad Rasool Khan inaugurated a peace sports festival to be continued till April 30.

A function in this regard was held at government high school, Mian Banda. The district government, sports department and local administration arranged the festival that comprises two rounds. Different games like cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, tug-of-war and traditional games would be played in the first round from April 15 to 26. The second round would be starting from April 27.

In Kohat, deputy commissioner Matiullah Khan inaugurated a five-day spring sports festival on Monday.

The games to be played in the festival include judo karate, tug-of-war, badminton, football, hockey, volleyball, handball, squash, taekwondo, gymnastics, archery, cricket, wrestling, tennis, netball, kabaddi and athletics.

On the occasion, Matiullah Khan said by arranging sports festivals a clear signal was being sent to the world that Pakistan was a peace-loving country which had eliminated terrorism in various military operations after a long war in which thousands of people had sacrificed their lives.

He admitted that still the country was passing through difficult times due to hot borders, bomb blasts and targeted killings by the agents of the enemy.
