An anti-corruption court in Lahore on Friday granted pre-arrest bail to Malik Riaz against bonds worth Rs 0.5m.
Riaz presented himself in the court of Justice Bahadur Ali Khan along with his lawyers Advocate Zahid Bukhari and Advocate Azhar Siddique.
Riaz is facing a court case for allegedly illegally taking over land owned by the Auqaf Department.
PCBL's land is also said to be in his name, a prosecutor for the anti-corruption department said.
"46 canal, 14 marla of land is located within Bahira Town. In total Malik Riaz has taken over 69 canals of government land to add to his housing society," he said.
The court granted Riaz bail after hearing arguments from both sides.

Pre arrest bail is a privilege not a right, he is paying a fine in the case in Karachi, why grant him bail, not jail? Too rich? He is farting off too easy.

I once again want to high light that Bahria Town is going to default on the payment plan . Default is evident. Government will definitely restructure that payment plan. There are still alot of slips between the cup and the lips. Government has to give him bail in order to not to give him excuse for default.

Benefit of doubt is there. Even if few canals of land falls into his empire, he can pay for it, he will not run away , like our former Finance Minister an absconder living in London.

It is so sad to see crooks like M. Riaz can roam freely in Pakistan. With so many court cases and fines imposed on him shouldn’t he be behind bars? What kind of system we have in place that is unable to punish the crooks in our ranks. The entire system stinks.

@fairplay, well said. These rich & politically well connected who have been playing on friendly pitch of govt. filled with corrupt of the same clan they belong to, suddenly finding conditions becoming adverse, are employing means and method to delay the accountability process till conditions improve. To be realistic, they have ample resources to play up with by hiring best attorneys to represent & who by creating legal lacuneas, provide them with required relief & space to maintain status quo for as long as they can afford.
And as happened in case of Karachi, they may opt to pay peanuts in terms of fine which of course to be recovered from their clienteles through enhanced rate of installments in the price of plots. This merry go around will stay as long as we as a nation don’t make it possible that law of the country to apply equally to all w/o giving credence to status, political affiliation, & of course to financial nuisance. Let us hope somewhere & somehow this dream comes true.
