KOHAT: A naib nazim of Nasratkhel village was on Friday murdered by his rivals to avenge an honour killing happened 14 years ago.
Nazim Malik Saeed Iqbal was sitting in front of a shop when Jan Hassan and Adil Shah came there and opened fire which resulted in his instant death. One of the accused nominated in the FIR, Jan Hassan, was arrested by the police after a search operation while the other was still at large.
The police were making raids for his early arrest.
Cantonment police station SHO Qismat Khan while narrating the background of the enmity told Dawn that the family of naib nazim had killed Misar Badshah, brother of accused Adil Shah, over his alleged illicit relations with a woman in 2006. They had also killed the female.
He said the nazim’s murder was a revenge killing.
A case had been registered against both the accused under section 302 of CrPc and investigations launched.
HOUSES GUTTED: A house was gutted in the Kohat city on Friday.
The police said the fire was ignited due to short-circuiting of the UPS system which engulfed the house within minutes.
A rescue 1122 team reached the scene but faced hardships in extinguishing the fire due to narrow streets leading to the house. The fire was extinguished after the household items had been reduced to ashes.
The house owner, Fareed Khan, who runs a food stall, appealed to the government and philanthropists to help him financially as the dowry of his two daughters and daughter-in-law had been reduced to ashes.
SPORT FESTIVAL: The teams of police headquarters circle won the main championship title after grabbing five trophies and winning 20 final matches in various tournaments on the final day of a three-day sports festival on Friday.
The final cricket match was played between Saddar and headquarters teams at the police lines ground which was won by the latter.
The matches of tug-of-war, badminton, volleyball, and cricket were played between 20 teams of Saddar, Lachi and headquarters circles. District police officer Wahid Mehmood, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said for healthy mind sports were a must and that he felt honored for arranging the first-ever sports festival of police in Kohat.
