MINGORA: Women visitors on the concluding day of two-day cultural and spring festival here said that such festivals should be held regularly where they could learn about new things and also release stress by interacting with other women and witnessing healthy activities.

The festival was organised by district administration in collaboration with the Pakistan Army. Visitors from all walks of life visited the event where they enjoyed traditional foods, clothes, music and dance.

“The objective of the festival was to raise awareness among general public of the cultural heritage of different parts of Pakistan and to send a message to the world about the beauty and peace in Swat valley,” said Yaseen Akbar, one of the organisers.

The visitors said that such healthy activities should be arranged regularly for the people of Swat.

“I and my children enjoyed everything here as we visited different stalls and also enjoyed music. I wish such cultural festivals are organised where women can come with their families,” said Mrs Waseem who was in the festival with her children.

The visitors said that they also enjoyed the beautiful weather and local foods and bought traditional items.

Sana Khan, who was standing behind the jewellery stall, said that all the jewellery items displayed at the stall was locally handmade and that was why visitors were taking interest in them.

“This is one of the best opportunities to promote handicrafts of local women because our women cannot come out and exhibit their products,” she said.

Several young artists were given opportunity to showcase their talent in the festival who said that they were encouraged to perform in front of people.

“I have a passion to play rabab which I learnt secretly from my parents.

“I played rabab in the festival and received high applause and encouragement from the visitors,” said Yarullah.
