MITHI: A devastating fire reduced over 100 houses and all their contents to ashes in an old settlement, Veera Wah village, near Nagarparkar town on Monday evening.

An affected villager, Mohammad Hanif Samoon, told this reporter on phone that the fire was caused by a faulty solar-power system installed in one of the houses and within minutes it engulfed a vast area of the village.

He said the fire destroyed the houses as well as all the valuable belongings including gold ornaments, stocked grain and girls’ dowry and burnt a number of goats and sheep to death. He said that affected villagers put out the inferno on self-help basis.
