QUETTA: The Balochistan government on Wednesday decided to upgrade seven higher secondary schools and 80 model and high schools and activate 1,800 non-functional schools in the province so that more and more children could get education.

Minister for Information and Finance Zahoor Buledi chaired a meeting that reviewed the plight of government-run schools in Balochistan.

The meeting approved a total of 147 government schools for upgrade and vowed to make 1,800 schools functional.

“Following the education emergency announced by the government we have been keenly focusing on the education sector, and ensuring quality education environment remains our priority,” Mr Buledi said at the meeting.

Unfortunately, he added, previous regimes didn’t focus on education sectors which badly affected the education department but “we have been utilising all resources to revamp the education structure”.

Adviser to chief minister for education Mohammad Khan Lehri, MPA Lala Abdul Rasheed and education officials attended the meeting.
