MUZAFFARGARH: A girl was hospitalised with life-threatening burns after a youngster set her ablaze to exact revenge from her family for turning down his proposal at Bet Mir Hazaar about 80 kilometres away from the city on Thursday.

Muhammad Yousaf, along with his accomplice, came to the house of Misbah Saeed, 16, with whom he wanted to tie the knot. The girl’s family turned down the proposal and Yousaf settled the score by throwing petrol on Misbah and setting her ablaze.

Her relatives rescued her after some time and took her to the DHQ hospital from where she was referred to Multan’s Nishtar Hospital burn unit.

District Police Officer Mohammad Sadiq Dogar ordered Bet Mir Hazaar SHO to register a case against the suspects. Police arrested Yousaf and registered a case against him under section 324, 452, 34 of PPC.

According to the girl’s mother, Yousaf and his accomplice set her daughter on fire in an attempt to kill her and ran away. She said the suspect’s parents had asked for her daughter’s hand in marriage but they rejected the proposal.

FACILITATION CENTRE: The district administration has set up a facilitation centre to provide domicile, weapons licence, route permit and revenue documents under one roof.

The centre has been built at a cost of Rs8 million with the help of USAID.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Ehtesham Anwar said there were frequent complaints about delay in acquisition of revenue record, weapon licence and route permits and he came up with the idea of the facility to address the issue.

Besides, he said, Awaz-i-Khalq -- a helpline 1718 -- is available at his office for public complaints.

This facilitation centre was a testament to the commitment to support the district and local governments by providing improved infrastructure and better civic amenities through small community development initiatives.

Many other departments in the public sector are also involved in provision of services to citizens, he added.
